Since i really enjoyed collecting 20X138B rounds. I thought once i was running out variations to collect id would jump over to a new AA/Small cannon round.

These post war 23X152mm rounds seem quite the good supplement!

Here i have a Hungarian HE Drill round (HE rounds known as OFZ) made in 1971 with markings on projectile body and fuze, and the base of the shell is just a screw. Plus a AP projectile (AP known as a BZT) with no markings.

I have included a photo of my new rounds next to my 20X138B round and a .303 bullet. Just to show a size comparison.

Keep an eye out since this is probably the start of more 23mms to come!

Very nice! How and where were these shells used? Mainly anti-aircraft guns, or where they used in aircraft as well?

Quite interestingly I have learnt. The IL-2 Shturmovik used a cannon know as the Volkov-Yartsev VYa-23 which fired BRASS 23X152mm casings.

Post war the Soviets/Warsaw Pact mainly used the 23X152mm cartridge in the ZU-23 series of Anti aircraft guns. They fired STEEL casings. Like above sorta.

These Brass and steel rounds are not interchangeable. The IL-2 cannot fire Steel rounds and the ZU-23 can’t fire Brass rounds.

So there still is some variations in material like my 20X138B rounds!
