3 inch MK6 44 marked Beautiful wood practice artillery shell.

Article about: Found this today thought I would show, 105MM MK6 44 marked practice drill shell 35 inches tall and solid wood weighing 23.5 approximately pounds. The wife liked it cause it matched our kitch

    Hi Eric,
    Was going off the base inscription " 3" dummy cartridge " which lead me to think US 76mm M1 Anti-Tank gun round.
    There's a dummy 76mm on this link

    Indeed it does. Hadn't looked at the base stamp. Surely if it says '3'' practice round' then that is what it is ? If it was 76mm it would say so, or 105mm for that matter. The base stamps were always very specific !

    Can you take another picture of the base so we can see all the markings ?

    Sorry Steve I guess i live in a world where I tend to convert imp. measurements to metric (my old boilmaking days). 1 inch=25.4mm so my 76mm (76.2)
    Could also be a M5 3' AT gun round.

    Not to be argumentive,but if you accurately measure the projectile I think you will find it is 75mm or 76.2mm as already mentioned.It does have 3" marked on the base. Pete.
