A guide to headstamps

The left cartridge with the G superimposed over the R was made by Georg Roth of Vienna Austria,is it rimmed or rimless? Is it 56mm long or 57mm long,a picture of the whole cartridge would be helpfull.....Pete.

It is rimless
and 56mm long
it ugly and corroded catridge ... it was too long undeground

The only rimless cartridges I can find are 8x56mm Mannlicher-Schoenauer and 9x56 M-S,but these are both sporting rifle cartridges and your headstamp looks like a military configuration,I give up.

year is 1926 ... Germans used that round - or not - it is not fired

Pete, I agree that it is certainly a military headstamp.

Given the area it was found I wonder if it is a 7x57mm Roth contract for Serbia and that with corrosion etc it appears to measures nearer 56mm.

I'm looking for info on a P-code (P103). I found this casing over the weekend, but can't find the manufacturer in any of the lists.
Does anyone have any ideas?

I think it is probably a badly stamped 'P163".

Hey Blokes

I dug these two mystery shell cases in our known military WWII area today ~

No idea

Third rimmed cartridge is a LE 303

Measurements are ~ at base < 11.80 mm> ~ projectile mounts damaged / out of round ~ < 7.00 - 7.09 mm>

Wondering if they military Blanks (??)

First thought was that they are US Army as I also dug US Army webbing buckle today ~ also a rarity in our area ~
