Article about: Founfd this at the local carboot sale this morning for a fiver! Is it a rifle grenade? is the paint genuine would this mean its a practice grenade painted this way? The base is stampedmg ltd

    Founfd this at the local carboot sale this morning for a fiver! Is it a rifle grenade? is the paint genuine would this mean its a practice grenade painted this way? The base is stampedmg ltd and 6/40 i take it this means Mg made the grenade and it was manufactured in june 1940? am i right.

    Hi, you are totally correct, rifle grenade. I cannot comment on the colour until I get my manual out.

    Yes a Mk36 1940 Mills bomb.
    .. Nice to see the cup discharge plate with it ....
    These are not too easy to find these days ..

    Painted red would mean filled with HE.

    This one has white paint under the red. I bet this one has been painted red so that it can be reused. i.e. once fired 100yards down the range, it can be seen easily and recovered for reuse.

    It looks pretty sound, many I've seen have parts of the fly off lever bracketry broken off through use. The ones on this site are £25 Online Shop but seeing as yours has a base fitted for the SMLE grenade cup discharger it will be worth more.

    The cup discharger is a sort after piece ..... probably £30 + or - on it's own !!

    First introduced in Oct 1917 ...

    .. And I am lucky to have 2 discharger plates with inert grenades dated ..... 10/17 !!
