Need help with this 40-42mm cannon shell ww1 or 2

Article about: Hi have a Solid Metal fired Cannon shell with drive band as per pictures, i thought it was WW2 but it seems to be marked N vg /|\\ W on one side and the other side VE? 12.2.12 or 14 it is 42m

    Hi have a Solid Metal fired Cannon shell with drive band as per pictures, i thought it was WW2 but it seems to be marked N vg /|\ W on one side and the other side VE? 12.2.12 or 14 it is 42mm x 140mm . can anyone advise . many thanks.

    Looks like a 3 PDR. practice projectile.

    Thats a nice chunky shell head, did you dig it or find it elsewhere either way good old find.

    Hi Dave , it was in antiques centre in Essex in a box with a load of rusty other metal objects (not military) , gave them £3 (it seemed worth the money ) cleaned it up to see if it had anything on it , but could not work out what cannon what year etc it was used in . Makes a good paper weight. Les .

    Hi Les,
    To right mate for 3 quid you cant go wrong it looks a nice piece to, i like the older stuff, as it has some history behind it. Try to do some research t would be interesting on knwing what it is, im restoring a russian shell head at the moment 50mm but dont know exactly what it is fired from.
