Easier to store without the fins, certainly!

What sort of condition was yours in before the restoration?

    B.B.
As I didn't restore it myself, I don't really know to be honest.

I would imagine it didn't go off for a number of reasons.

My Grandfather was a Warden here in Liverpool during the war.

These things were all over the place when the "all clear" sirens went off.

He told me some great stories, some very gruesome, some very sad, some unexplained.

But, when he told me about UXB's, I knew as a young boy, I just had to have one.

It took me years, but finally one arrived.. in the back of a car. (Thankfully )

I guess that isn't any worse than all of the motorcycle parts I used
    to stash under mine

That's a very cool addition to your collection. I'm surprised that it could
be bought / sold on ebay.

Technically, it wasn’t supposed to be. The listing was removed shortly after I purchased it, but by then it was paid for and shipped out. You can find all sorts of supposedly banned militaria on eBay, if you’re persistent enough. I’ve always said it’s an underrated source for militaria, as long as you’re willing to wade through all the crap to find it.

I couldn't agree more. Some of the better pieces in my collection have come from ebay.
