    They are iron ... were iron ... rusted away so much

    Nickel plated charger clips probably ..
    don't know if they are 70 years old or 100 years old
    Judging by stuff I got from that hole it is WWII

    could be there is no metal left and they are all rust

    Nickel chargers will show not on metal on MD as we all know. Do a scan of NI and see if you get a reading???
    How could you? As it has no metallic value? Might as well ben aluminium.
