The 40mm round is a navy Bofors gun round Anti Aircraft gun and the other was used with a US 37mm anti-tank gun

37mm was also the secondary armament on the Lee Grant tank in a separate turret mounted on the left side upper structure later on they also added a second turret on top of the 37mm one and housed possibly a Browning 30-06 M.G

The 37mm m17 case is for the AA gun it is semi rimmed, where as the anti tank round is the m16 case and has a rimmed base. I dont think the two are interchangable. Yours is the m17 case which is a lot less common, Iv never seen one in the flesh , so a nice find for sure!
