I would carefully put it outside NOW! It's a British INCENDIARY BOMB!

    Thanks Nick,
And yeah I only had it in the house long enough to take the pics because I wasn't sure what it was.

Bunghole - My apologies but this did make me laugh I know I shouldn't have as it was potentially rather dangerous but, and this is the clincher, the British incendiaries are easy to spot due to their hexagonal shape. There is very little else like them in the ordnance world and the rule is.......if it's hexagonal......Don't so much as SNEEZE on it

I thought this was quite widely known in Europe (not so much the UK as we don't come across them at all), but obviously not !

Oh well bunghole.....you live and learn mate.....live and learn

Here's a diagram of the type you found. The tail section has corroded away in your example.

    Cheers

The steel Nose sections often seem to turn up - must survive the fires they ignite! I have seen them on French vide grenier stalls, often amongst tools as people think they are some sort of large nut! Intact ones are much less common - must have had a good reliability rate! Only whole one I have seen previously came from a Dutch wreck dig - as Steve says they are virtually unknown in the UK and as they look like a bit of machinery, its an easy mistake to make - You won't do it again though and its been an easy lesson with no harm done.
