    Default What's It? Cast-Iron Pear-shaped Item with Brass Slotted Plug

    This was a gift from a recycled building-material yard owner, who was eager to be rid of it.

    It was heavily covered with hard, dried mud/soil. I scrubbed it wet, and took a Stainless Texas-toothbrush to the brass plug area.

    That plug is marked: WT-7-A. There are no other markings visible on the item.

    The small end looks to have had a steel(?) cable in it; the dimple bears very short remnants of multi-strand wire..

    Weigh is 1.196 Kg; Length is 4.175"; Major Dia. is ~2.25";
    Plug Dia. is ~.500"; Slot is .085" wide and ~.170" deep.

    What have I got here? Any ideas, Gentlemen?

    Thanks for looking!

    I would not want to touch that!
    It looks like a rifle grenade or hand grenade.

    Maybe there is not so much to worry about. It seems to be an antenna weight from a C47 (maybe used on other aircraft aswell). I found one the same on this site:

    @ Ande, correct to be cautious mate as it does look like a rifle grenade!...
    @ Spitace, Bingo!....
    It's a wasted trip baby. Nobody said nothing about locking horns with no Tigers.

    Indeed well done. It did looks a bit dubious to start with.

    Oh yeah, I have a vast knowledge of all things to do with aircraft antenna and such, so of course I instantly recognised the code.*

    Excellent, timely, PERFECT!

    Thank you sincerely...I won't worry now about taking the plug out (if I can manage it).
