    Hi Guys,

Here's an example of an early design type 2 hollow tombak Panzerkampfabzeichen in bronze from the firm of Deumer based in Ludenscheid. These early Deumer badges are rated as one of the most desirable to the Panzerkampfabzeichen collector and are considered rather rare.

The badge is die struck, with the reverse side a perfect mirror image of the obverse. The design of the badge is nicely executed with an accurate depiction of the tank, and the grass foreground always shows a small daisy just under the second and third road wheels on the right track.

A similar daisy is found on Schauerte & Hohfeld badges as well, and the unknown maker reffered to as the "Daisy type", although the thinking is that it may be a product of S&H as well, only it's so far unproven. The Deumer daisy is "spikier" in appearance than the two other types, and is often not noticed, its impression can be seen far more easily on the reverse side generally speaking.

The reverse hardware is the usual small block hinge in tombak found on many early badges, and in this case, a small tombak 'C' shaped catch on a circular baseplate to facillitate soldering it securely.

This particular badge is in stonemint condition, it has no signs of any wear whatsoever and the dark chocolate wash that was applied is 100% which makes me wonder if it could have been awarded posthumously to the widow or parents of the recipient, only to be put away in a drawer somewhere, who knows?. Panzer Grenadiers had a very high attrition rate, being in the forefront of most battles and operating in soft skinned vehicles like half tracks, armoured cars and motorcycles, and many of these men didn't survive the war.

Anyway, here's the pic's, including a couple of scans I did whilst visiting a friend's business this morning....I gotta get me one of those things!

Thanks for the kind words fella's!

Dave, the close ups are done with a Veho USB 200x mag microscope, and I highly recommend them. Andy (Kradspam) posted a great thread about them a while back and I was lucky to pick one up off Ebay as a 2nd hand unwanted gift for only £19 about a week later. Result!
