I might be wrong, but it looks like one of the "high end" fakes that surfaced in Germany a while back.

This is an extremely good fake from the Hero/Staegmaier stable. Many collectors are frightened by this particular badge as it is thought that in 10 years or so with handling and some age and natural wear behind it, they will become almost indistinguishable from originals.

But there is a dead giveaway that many have not noticed, and that is a flaw that is seen on all the fakes of this KWM badge. It was most probably a flaw on the original badge that formed the mold for this copy and hence is always there, like a guilty fingerprint. It's on the left track link that i've highlighted below. If you see this, walk away.

    Here endeth the lesson.

And the same flaw on the badge you show here.

If that were the only criteria then you'd end up dismissing a vast amount of battle hardened originals heavily worn through use. As I said before, in a few years these will be practically indistinguishable from originals unless you have them in hand for close examination, and even then many will be fooled unless you know precisely what to look for. The devil is ALWAYS in the detail.
