    Hello All,
here is my new arrival that was popped through the box today.

I think this is the '2nd pattern' daisy PAB?

Unlike a lot of my other vet collections this badge looks to have been fairly well stored with only a tiny bit of oxidisation.

This is my first 'daisy' so I am quite pleased with it.

    All the best
    Doug

    Hi Doug,

Nice looking badge with a quality Brennlack finish that stands the test of time well. You may well be aware that there is a strong possibility that this pattern type was made by Schauerte & Hohfeld after major problems with their late hollow tombak badges and then the hollow zinc PAB produced using the same die. The thinking is that this required a new semi hollow design, but this ('Variant A') also soon developed serious flaws and was again improved with the final 'Variant B', of which yours is a nice example. This supposition cannot be proven 100% though, and consequently the badge remains classified as by an unknown maker.

    Regards, Ned.

    Hello Ned,
thank you for your very learned and informative comments.
So trying to increase my knowledge based on the info you gave I have read in my research about Schauerte & Höhfeld and their badge production.
I understand about the shift from tombak to zinc metals and it is interesting to see some of the hollow zincs and the devastation the cutters used caused damage to the wreath and left parts untouched or badly cut.

    All the best
    Doug

I wonder why no one has come up with a 'packeted' badge that may well prove conclusively who made them.

    Thanks Eric,
I am pleased to have this one rather than the zinc pest ridden ones I normally come across.

    Cheers

    Hello,
It is a very nice badge and as it was mentioned earlier, the brenlac finish has held up to the test of time.
