    Hello all,

I came across this unmarked Panzerkampfabzeichen in silber and wanted to seek opinions as to its authenticity. The badge is quite heavy. I would appreciate any help anyone can give.

    Thanks a lot in advance

    Hi TJ,

Stay clear of this one, it's an unusual fantasy badge that generally comes under the catch all title of the 'Mutant Fake'. These are badges that have a non sensical mixture of one type of obverse design and another rear set up from a completely different design or maker. In this case it's what appears to be a type 5 Souval design obverse matched with a type 1 unknown maker reverse known as the 'Juncker Set Up'.

There are several variants of mutant fakes that have been catching out dealers and collectors for years, and this is one of the rarer ones. Other types include a type 4 design B.H.Meyer/Frank & Reif obverse and the same 'Juncker Set Up' as above.

Here's a poor couple of pic's of one the same as the one you show, but you get the idea.

    Regards, Ned.
