    ISMAIL SADIKHOV, born 1923 in Erivan, Western Azerbaijan.
    1941-1942: Orjonekidze Military school
    May 1942/March 1943: trench mortar operator, 273th Rifle Division, Western front.
    March 1943/December 1943: trench mortar crew commander, 4th Rifle Division, Bryansk front.
    December 1943/February 1944: - recon platoon commander, ski battalion, 4th Bezhitsk Rifle Division, 1 Belorussian front.
    His platoon would carry special missions in German rear capturing POWs as an informants.
    Wounded twice: February 1944, June 1944
    October 1944/March 1945: lieutenant, trench mortar platoon commander, 283th Rifle Division, 2d Belorussian front.
    March 1945/May 1945: rifle platoon commander, 856th Regiment, 283th Rifle Division.
    He captured Kenigsberg and Berlin with his unit.
    Awards: Order of the Great Patriotic War 1st class, Order of the Red Star.

    He continued his military service post-war and has retired in mid 1980s in a rank of major.

    He is a Last Hero to me because he was very last veteran whom I had a privilege to know privately as a nice Man and a tough Soldier.
