No, not photography, but stenography. The shorter letter to Ms. Rosendahl, dated 10th February 1943 says:

"We refer to your letter of the 27th of last month and inform you that we are interested in your application. Still, we ask you to return the enclosed questionnaire to us after having filled it out thoroughly; it is only after this that we shall be able to undertake further steps with regard to your application.

At the same time, we let you know that we have set a monthly gross wage of 375.-- Reichsmarks for this position.

We are awaiting your answer in this matter and sign with

    Heil Hitler!

    [stamped & signed]

    Enclosure."

(Translation of the longer letter coming up.)

Here is the longer letter, dated 20th February 1943:

"We confirm receipt of your letter dated the 12th of this month with the filled-out applicants' questionnaire and inform you that, based on your statements and pending the Labor Office's approval, we are willing to hire you as a press stenographer with our publishing house under the following terms:

Initially, the employment would be on a probationary basis. After the end of the four-week probationary period, you would be permantly employed if found capable. After this, the dismissal period would be a monthly one, i.e. both parties can terminate the employment on the first day of a month effective to the last day of the month.

As your wage, we would pay you 375.-- Reichsmarks gross every month in arrears.

After a minimum of six months' work you would be granted two weeks of leave.

The medical insurance agency in charge is the AOK
[= Allgemeine Ortskrankenkasse; still in existence today]. We would register you for membership in this agency unless you provide us with proof of your membership in an official alternative medical insurance company within three days of your first day of work.

Since you will probably employed in daytime duty, your work hours would be from 10 to 6 o'clock.

The following documents are required: Work book, tax- and employee's insurance card, another passport photograph, police certificate
[= criminal record] as well as the enclosed questionnaire, filled out thoroughly.

If you agree to the aforementioned terms, we ask you to reply soon but also have to let you know that we are unfortunately unable to find acommodation for you.

    Heil Hitler!

    [stamped & signed]

    Enclosure."
