It looks to be a surrender leaflet the Germans dropped on Russian lines. If I was home I could compare the writing to the ones I have, unfortunately in many ways, I'm at work. Jay

Was this a standard version ? Many of course were produced for different areas of the Front.
The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )

    1st July 1916

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

That's a great question Paul, I've often wondered the same. I've only seen two different types that the Germans dropped, I'm sure there could be more, but I have no idea which may be standard.
