We've had a few wartime items kicking around the house since the war (My father served in France and was at Dunkirk, then later in North Africa, Sicily and Italy), and most have been easy to research.

One however, I am stuck on.

I appears to be a German publication, in a kind of photo album format. Perhaps the pictures were collected separately like cigarette cards?

I have three months worth of pages - June, October and December 1939.

Each page is quite stout printed (in German) card, about 16" by 12", and each photo, about 6" by 4".

I would love to find out more about their origins.

    Cheers

    Guy

I don't think they are photos per say,but most likely premium cards that came with coffee or sugar or some other product sort of like our bubble gum cards except bigger. There must have been thousands of different series that they printed I have several collectors books with the subjects such as the 1936 Olympics, the Hindenburg and Graff Zeppelin and the army ,navy air force and of course Hitler.Very common but fun to collect. Each series had a special album that went with the cards you would have to fill in the spaces just like a stamp collection.

    Thanks Operaman

Pretty much as I thought. They are quite substantial compared to the stuff we get these days, and it would be great to find out from which product or publication they were collected.

If anyone is interested I can scan them properly sometime. There are all sorts of pictures - from Hitler lunching to HMS Edinburgh being attacked in the Firth of Forth.

Might be nice to have a translation or two too.

    Cheers
