Re: Help with translating letters/ documents found IN GARBAGE!
looks like one feldpost was from a "Oberst Ferdinand Kapka (kafka?)" Wien 1 ....I would do a little research if I were you. You never know what you might find!
The bottom looks like it was from a Mrs. Kathy Steinschauer...Pfeiffergasse 3, Wien XV
Crazy that people throw this stuff away! And in New York too!! Youre lucky

Re: Help with translating letters/ documents found IN GARBAGE!
The rubber stamped Feldpost markings will, via the number, tell you his unit. Please post these numbers and I will tell you his unit.
Cheers, Ade.

Thank you very much for the offer!
These letters seem to be written by multiple soldiers, and the one letter with two hitler stamps may be a civlian letter?
Just to be clear (I have ZERO experience with this stuff...) is this the feldpost number? 01732

Re: Help with translating letters/ documents found IN GARBAGE!
01732 is the FpNr for...
(Mobilmachung-1.1.1940) Stab II Artillerie-Regiment 109,
(27.1.1942-14.7.1942) Stab II, 4.-6. Batterie und Kolonne Artillerie-Regiment 109.

Re: Help with translating letters/ documents found IN GARBAGE!

(1.10.1940-27.2.1941) 1. kleine Kraftwagen-Kolonne Korps-Kolonne 457,
(12.3.1943-7.9.1943) Nachschub-Kompanie 457 (Turkest.).

Re: Help with translating letters/ documents found IN GARBAGE!
And Image 6 has a FpNr that looks like 23956 (or it might be 23056). For the former that is for...
(Mobilmachung-1.1.1940) Stab Artillerie-Kommandeur 44,
(19.7.1941-14.2.1942) Höherer Artillerie-Kommandeur 310,
(10.2.1943-23.8.1943) gestrichen (Stalingrad),
(6.4.1944-9.11.1944) 27.9.1944 Fahrschwadron 3/18,
(10.11.1944-Kriegsende) 6.12.1944 gestrichen.
And for 23056 it is for...
(Mobilmachung-1.1.1940) 4. Batterie Artillerie-Regiment 217,
(2.1.1940-27.4.1940) gestrichen, wurde Fp.Nr. 12369 B,
(25.9.1940-15.2.1941) Kolonne Infanterie-Regiment 589,
(16.2.1941-18.7.1941) 5. Fahrkolonne Infanterie-Divisions-Kolonne 321,
(24.8.1943-5.4.1944) 1.12.1943 gestrichen,
(6.4.1944-9.11.1944) 11.10.1944 SS-Sonderlager (Polizei) Breslau-Oswitz.

Re: Help with translating letters/ documents found IN GARBAGE!
Unfortunately I can not find any mention of a Kapka or Kafka in the 1944/45 Rangeliste or in Wolf Keilig's Die Generales Des Heeres (assuming he would of reached General rank considering he was an Oberst in 1940). With that rank in 1940 and that unit I'd of thought he would be in a position of command but he isn't listed as the Commanding Officer of Artillery Rgt 109 (for that period it was Oberst Kurt Muhl) so maybe he was with that unit in another capacity.

Wow! Thank you very much hucks!
Any additional information you can provide would be amazing! Please let me know if you need better pics!
