    Jingle Bells, jingle bells,

I have thought that these Christmas days are an ideal time to share my collection of photographs of German soldiers in Russia (almost all) with sleds pulled by one or two horses.
Hundreds of thousands of pairs of horses bought or requisitioned throughout the Europe occupied by the Germans, were taken to Russia to pull wagons and sleds during the years 1941 to 1944.
You will see several different races of horses in these photos.
But there was a native horse breed from the occupied USSR territories: the panje horses.
Not too big, very resistant and naturally adapted to the harsh weather of winters in Russia, Belarus or Ukraine.
These small horses and their sledges loaded with supplies, ammunition or wounded soldiers, forming convoys became the means of communication between the front line and the depots of the railway stations or the advanced aerodromes near the first line.
I hope you enjoy with these photographs (I will upload 52) and feel free to upload any other you have.
I hope that the thread title has not generated much confusion.
Oh, and merry Christmas to all!!!

Sorry, I doubled it without wanting to. I don't know how to eliminate it.

Ha ha! Humour aside, that is a great collection of images, they really show the reality of how a "modern" war was fought. Still using our equestrian friends to the end! Just remember chaps, us Brits were using Donkey's, Pony's and horses in France, India and Burma well into 1945 and beyond!!
    Great thread. Leon.

Great collection of images. Very interesting to see. It really shows it is tough to beat GMC CCKW 353 2 1/2 ton truck and trailer.
