Looks like a presentation piece with some nice original labels and stamps on the frame !!
The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )

Courage the greater as our strength faileth.

    Hi Jez,

That's an official Junkers press photo that was used by the firm for P.R. purposes and was also sold as a postcard. The aircraft is Junkers Ju52/3 W/Nr.4701 D-ANYF 'Erich Pust' operated by Lufthansa.

The photo shows it flying over the Spanish Coast around about 1939. I believe, but cannot prove, it may have been used earlier during the Spanish Civil War to ferry German troops to that country. The aircraft was eventually pressed into service by the Luftwaffe, and was lost in 1941 under circumstances I cannot find out about.

It would be interesting if the writing and label can be translated by someone here. The label mentions the town/city of Dessau, which was where the 'Erich Pust' was based.

    Regards, Ned.

The piece says partially "From great-great uncle -name illegible-
In Recognition for good Sports achievements 24 July 1938-signature illegible-
My guess is that this was from an athletic competition among workers...Cheers, Glenn
