Hi, These are my latest purchase, three postcards sent by an SS man at Flossenburg Concentration Camp to his wife in 1944. If anyone has any comments or can translate any of what he says, I would be very interested. Many thanks, Douglas

    Here are the translations.

    First one:

    "Silberhütte, 18 June 44

    Dear Kuni!

Today, we have made an outing to the Silberhütte. Weather is not too good and it has rained a bit. But it can't be helped; the bird who is inside wants to get out once in a while. There is not much going on today. Tonight, there will be a performance at the
[...], a variety show. Greetings, Michel"

Silberhütte is a few kilometers from Flossenbürg and close to the Czech border. The area is popular for hiking in summer and skiing in winter.
Not quite sure about the missing word, it could be "Karussell" ["Carousel"].

    Second one:

    "Flossenbürg, 22 July 44

    My dear wife!

How are you doing? Hasn't Heini written yet. We will soon be transferred away from here. Please send the laundry one more time, but not too much. Let me hear from you, too. Sending a parcel with the same mail. Otherwise, all is well. For today, friendly greetings to you.
    Michael
    "

    Third one:

    "Flossenbürg, 12 Aug. 44

    My dear Kuni!

As you know, our long-awaited day of departure will be on the 16th of this month. What's new back home? Am now hoping that you will certainly come tomorrow, or did you change your mind. For today, the most cordial greetings. Your Michel
    "

By the way, the writer's home was at Sulzbach-Rosenberg, some 60 kilometers away from Flossenbürg and part of
the same Bavarian administrative region, the Upper Palatinate. [Oberpfalz]

Nice set Douglas, well done and thanks for sharing them all. I have attached a few images below, just to show the area that the SS accommodation blocks for the guards on duty once stood. The original SS-Kantine structure, also pictured, still stands over the former camp grounds.

    Regards,

    Carl
