Need opinions on some SS feldpost!
So I found some SS feldpost for sale and wanted to check your opinon about it. I find one part of the description a little bit odd: "Interesteing to note that on several of the earlier letters, Born gives his rank simply as Soldat with no SS-prefix.". Would be great if someone with better knowledge then me can check the pictures and description too se if there is any "buried dog" here.. Thanks!
Description:
"Up again, this group was on hold but buyer seems to have vanished and on top of that, the ad was removed despite only marked "on hold"......
So here we go again: A group of 19 feldpostletters from/to Karl Born. 16 envelopes are complete with letters, the other 3 are only the envelopes.
First letter is dated 30 september 1940 and the last is dated 28 july 1943. At that time Born had been promoted to SS-Rottenführer.
Feldpostnumbers indicate Born served with Panzer Abwehr Sturm/SS Standarte Deutschland + 13./SS-Regt. Deutschland and finally with Regimentsstab/SS-Regt. Deutschland, all units of the SS-verfügungstruppe/SS-Div. Das Reich.
Interesteing to note that on several of the earlier letters, Born gives his rank simply as Soldat with no SS-prefix."

Re: Need opinions on some SS feldpost!
I saw this earlier and was about to drop you a line. Looks nice, although I have only seen the group shot. Ask for individual scans / high quality images front and back, that should assist.
Best,
Carl

Re: Need opinions on some SS feldpost!
So! I ended up buying the letters, and I have now taken photos of front and back of the covers.
This is really strange and something I have never came across with SS feldpost before.. I hope that they are not fake, but to be honest I really doubt it. I think there is a different story here.
I would very much like to know what you think about this odd story.
So, on the first 7 letters the absender is: SOLDAT Karl Born

Attachment 458274
Attachment 458275
Attachment 458276
Attachment 458277
Attachment 458278
Attachment 458279
On the 8:th letter the absender is simply: Karl Born
Attachment 458280
Attachment 458281
Then on letter 9, 10 and 11 the absender is: SOLDAT Karl Born again
Attachment 458282
Attachment 458283
Attachment 458284
Attachment 458285
Attachment 458286
Attachment 458287
Now the weirdest part.. On letter 12 the absender is: GEFREITER Karl Born - Like had a promotion.. Now, Gefreiter is not a SS rank so why would he write Gefreiter if he is in the SS? Is he a wehrmacht soldier fighting with SS or is he faking hes rank because he is embaressed about being in the SS? Or is the letters actually faked SS letters?
Attachment 458288
Attachment 458289
Now, on letter 13, 14 and 15 he starts to use: SS-Sturmmann Karl Born as absender
Attachment 458290
Attachment 458291
Attachment 458292
Attachment 458293
Attachment 458294
Attachment 458295
Letter 16 is adressed to him (I can not make out the absender) and he is adressed as: SS-Sturmmann Karl Born
Attachment 458296
Attachment 458297
On letter 17 it looks like he's absender is again: SS-Sturmmann Karl Born
Attachment 458298
Attachment 458299
And on the last letters, letter 18 and 19 the absender is: SS Rottenführer Karl Born
Attachment 458300
Attachment 458301
Attachment 458302
Attachment 458303
So the FP numbers seems to be to SS division Das Reich but I guess they could have been added later, although I think they look genuine.. Also it does not explain why the later letters says SS and why he got a letter adressed to him as SS Sturmmann.. Maybe he was first in the wehrmacht and then joined SS? But it does not explain why he uses SS feldpost numbers.. Please help me clear this one out
