Very nice! There cannot be to many, if indeed there are anymore, Knights Cross winners of the Volksturm.

Tiburzy was the first one, but I am aware of three others: Wilhelm Sitt, Karl Pakebusch and Jakob Hoffend.

    Here is what I found:

Günther Nowak; Hitler Youth in the 1./ Volkssturm Battalion 301. Won the Knights Cross on 14 February 1945 when his unit was part of Kampfgruppe Trettin. He won the award for the destruction of 9 Russian tanks by use of Panzerfaust. He was later captured by the Russians and died in captivity in 1945.

Jakob Hoffend; Volkssturmmann in the Cologne area. He won his Knights Cross on 18 February 1945. He was a Feuerwerker (rough translation: ordinance technician) and Bombenraümer (bomb-clearer) in Luftgau VI, Köln (Cologne).

Iburg, first name unknown; SA - Sturmfuhrer. Believed to be part of the Volksturm. Knights Cross awarded on January 1945.

Pakebush, Karl; Battalion Furher, Volksturm Berlin, unit "Flensburger Nachrichten." Knights Cross awarded April 27th, 1945.

Sitt,Wilhem; Battalion Fuhrer, Sprengemilster d.pol Volksturm Kolm, Knights Cross date February 18th, 1945. Fallen in Koln on 3/7/45.

Tiburzy, Ernst; Volksturm Batallion Fuhrer, Knights Cross awarded on February 10th, 1945

Günther Nowak never existed: A deserted Bataillonsführer of the Volkssturm named Sachs had made up Nowak and his heroic act as part of a "cover story" for his own desertion, resulting in the non-existing Nowak being awarded the Knight's Cross for his non-existing feat.

Don't know about Iburg; I have never heard of him.

One more name for the list: Otto Herzog, commander of the Volkssturm units in Breslau also won the Knight's Cross.

By the way; Tiburzy appeared (briefly) in the very last Wochenschau [weekly newsreel] of the Third Reich; see here: Die Deutsche Wochenschau Nr 755 - YouTube (at the 3:56 mark).

    Thanks for interesting info.
Yes, he is in Die Wochenschau wearing the eye patch - as well as in the Osprey book as well.
