Sorry Paul but I have never seen an example of his signature to compare it to. Can you show the whole document so I can narrow the field down by comparing position and dates etc? It does look like it says 'Kaiser'.

    Signature Vinzenz Kaiser !

Its a promotion document issued by the Stab of DF whilst the recipient was in a Lazerett in Linz afetr being wounded during Kharkov , it comes with a certificate for the Verwundeten Abzeichen in Schwarz issed in April at the lazerett.

This is the complete doc , position and date fits with his Command of III /DF during the Kharkov fighting but like you i haven't seen an original of his signature and can't locate one anywhere !!

    cheers

    Paul

The doc is dated 31/3/43 however have just done some more checking and his personnal file and Yerger gives a date of 20/4/43 as his date for promotion to SS Sturmbannfuhrer .although another doc in the file suggests 1/4/43 as the promotion date , certainly he wasn't offcialy prmoted when this doc was signed but did he know of the promotion and took a liberty , unlikely !!!

The problem with such documents is that while the dates can indicate when it was typed up it could be days or weeks later before they were actually signed - or they could even be backdated. Maybe he was promoted but it wasn't officially confirmed until 20th May.

That's could be the case , certainly he was a Sturmbannfuhrer when the famous set of Kharkov photos were taken in April 43 where he, Kumm, Weiss , Tychsen etc were awarded the Ritterkreuz / Eichenlaub although i can't remember the exact date in April of those awards !

    6th April 1943.

Considering he was awarded the NKSiG & RK there will be an entry for him in the book Faces Of Courage.

That's it mate , so he was wearing Sturmbannfuhrers rank on that date , i'll have to keep searching for a copy of his signature , i'll get in touch with Horst Herpolsheimer from 11 / DF and see if he will send me a copy of his EK I doc which may have been signed by Kaiser !!

Checked that one as well gives his promotion date as 20/4/43 but as we know he was wearing the rank on the 6th , no copies of his sig there either unfortunately !
