Interesting, thanks Dan. These would have been used to keep track of tools in the various workshops. KZ Klooga had cement works and woodworks, so one would expect that plenty of these would have been found after the camp was abandoned. Almost every prisoner was slaughtered during the last days of the camp, with only a few score who managed to hide themselves away surviving the ordeal.

Another example of a premium token, this time from KZ Buchenwald, Weimar. These were manufactured using a very low grade paper, hence the brittle condition we find many original examples today. Shown here is an example without Aussenkommando (outside work) diagonally printed across the obverse of the denomination. The second type display this, often with sub-camp names in addition.

The legs on the letter "M" in "RM" can also differ. The example shown above displays vertical legs, whilst some original examples have slanted legs present.

And a reverse image that clearly highlights the fragility of the circulated examples. Originals were manufactured using very low grade paper, hence the condition that they are often found in today.

Whilst the Theresienstadt examples remain amongst the more common of camp related scrip, at least the lower denominations anyway, this is one of my favourite examples, being a 001 serial number piece Eine Krone. The number does not relate to the print run, but to the plate used.

p.s. For those with an interest, the fascinating story behind the artwork used to adorn these beautiful notes, involving SS-Obergruppenfuhrer Reinhard Heydrich and a Jewish artist who later died at KZ Auschwitz, can be read in the "Heydrich and the banknotes thread", located in the forum.
