A friend of the family gave me this wallet. She said that she didn't like it in the house but her dad brought it back from the war so she couldn't throw it out. Her dad told her that he had taken it off a dead German.
Was this soldier a Russian fighting for the Germans? All the photos were in the wallet along with the cash, safe conduct pass, and letter. The letter must be from before the war as it was sent from NY.
The US soldier was Cpl. Elbert Jones he was in a signal company.I have heard stories that if a german soldier was caught with a safe conduct pass he was shot.

He was doomed almost from the start...

What with the various types of currency and the safe conduct pass it looked like he was trying to take any opportunity to get out of the situation he was in.

    Cheers, Ade.

His unit was part of the German 709th Inf Div and fought in Normandy in June 1944. They were based in La Brasserie.
