Hi I bought this book from the relative of a WW2 vet and I don't know if it is a real SS book or those were just drawn on and what does this mean This is on the front of the book "Kauthaus Kroll & Nill augsburg" and at the bottom of the cover it says this "Telefon: 1344 u. 1345" on the inside cover its dated 1930 and on the left side of the other side of the cover it says "Willy Ritter, Berlin SW 68" All the names in the book are American I think there from members of this mans Unit. Any help would be appreciated and any questions feel free to ask. Thanks. - Nick K

It is not 'SS' at all. Someone did not know how to write in runic, was dyslexic, or it was
a young person who has hand written it on there. It appears to be a simple
note pad advertising a German company.

Companies and/or their salesmen sometimes give things like this away to employees
and customers. It's a small way of saying 'thanks for doing business' - it's free
advertising or promotion, and it continues in similar fashion in some form
or another to this day. Think of the 'stir sticks' they give you when
you buy a can of paint from the hardware store.

The info inside might be his buddies' addresses so the guy could
look them up when he was back home after the war.

    I like the jack knife...............!
    Regards,

    Steve.

    "Kaufhaus
    Kröll & Nill
    Augsburg
    Telefon: 1344 u. 1345
    "

    means

    "Department Store
    Kröll & Nill
    Augsburg
    Telephone: 1344 and 1345
    "

As has been said before, it's a commercial giveaway item and has SS connection. It is impossible to say who wrote the "mirror image" SS runes on the cover and when.

Just for additional info; according to this German-language city chronicle entry...:
Augsburger Stadtlexikon - Die Stadtgeschichte von Augsburg: K
...the Kröll & Nill firm was established in 1874. The company's building was destroyed in 1944 and re-built in 1949-51. According to the Augsburg phone directory, they are still in business
