My pre-WW2 Polish wz.31

Your Polish Luftschuz helmet makes me wonder which type of helmets the Germans didn't issue for Luftschutz means.

Just come to think of it. Out of the logical possibilities I've never seen any Italian M33's, Greek M34's, Danish m23's issued for the Luftschutz. That's something for my wish list

I haven’t been back here since my last posts and missed your post showing the three wz.31’s in your collection. Wonderful helmets, and in particular the decaled Luftschutz one. It’s the first one like it I’ve ever seen. Fantastic helmet!

Yes, all wz.31/50 helmets use pre-war Ludwikow made shells fitted with the updated liner requiring the use of two additional rivets. Somehow a stockpile of raw unfinished and rejected shells survived the war. It’s a story that I have not been able to find much information about.

Yeah, in all honesty it’s one of the mysteries of WW2 that I would love to get more information about. I find it surprising that the Germans did not melt them down to recycle into other much needed war materials, especially towards the latter part of the war.

I’d be hard pressed to think the Germans would not have discovered them over the five years of occupation, terror, pillaging and destruction they inflicted on the Polish nation. I’d like to find out to what degree the Ludwikow factory was utilized by the Germans for their armament production. Some clues to the mystery would be contained in this information.

Oh, and you’ve blown my cover on the TRF!!
