    Hi Tony,
Great job again! I especially like your post about the 2nd class fitted cases. They are so rare, and I've never seen the horizntal one's before - I've tought only Spinks & Sons used to make them... You learn every day To complete this section, please find photos of the 5th class attached. It's really tiny, however still remain the high quality. Tony, did you have a look for the case for 3rd class VM?

Hi Michael, thanks for posting the pictures showing case details of the 5th class cross. Agreed, although small in comparison to the others, the quality was in no way diminished.

Regarding the 2nd class set, I have only ever encountered three pre-WW2 made cases in this class, two of them being horizontal and one with the vertical alignment.

As far as the VM case, I’ve not forgotten that you are searching for one and am keeping an eye out for you.

    Cheers,
    Tony

An interesting recent auction listing. This is a raw stamping of an unfinished Commander's Cross (measuring 58mm across) from the prolific Wiktor Gontarczyk operation. I’d like to know the story behind how this "odkówka" surfaced.

Recently listed for sale, this 1st class cross and star set was identified as being the product of an unknown French maker.

Breast star: tombac base, silver plated. 77mm across. The star is a very similar to the Gontarczyk version:
