I was watching this ebay listing of several very interesting photos. Among the lot was this one of Smigly-Rydz. Although those were identified as being taken at the Hungarian border, the inclusion of this photo led me to wonder of it was one of the last photos of him before crossing the border into Rumania on September 18, 1939. Note the late non-collar tab uniform being worn by gen. Tadeusz Kasprzycki on the right. Although one cannot read too deeply into a snapshot, the background view and facial expressions along with being included in the 1939 south east border pics does raise interesting questions. Hoping to see some comments . . .

Indeed, I found them really interesting (albeit expensive). The photos, I got have writing in hungarian (stating "Verecke - Polish-Hungarian Border) on the back and one can assume that all taken at Verecke pass were by a hungarian photographer.
As to Rydz-Smigly photo, his facial expression is one of tragedy and shock. I also wonder when and where it was taken.

Yes, very interesting topic and photos. As you know, Poland and Hungary no longer share a common border, yet ties and mutual admiration between the two nations remain strong. The shifting of borders now places the Verecke Pass within the Ukraine.

Did you also get the Smigly-Rydz photo? And, hope its OK to hijack your thread to continue the discussion about this fascinating photo.

    Cheers,
    Tony

Yes, I am well aware of the long friendship between Poland and Hungary - Batory, Bem and so on.
No, I didn't get the Rydz-Smigly photo - I missed the others as well and only got those 2.
