    Default Aussie made Polish/RAAF jacket

    G'day All

Any one have any info on this Aussie made 1943 jacket & insignia?
It's also unusual that it has shoulder boards.

    Regards

    Good-day Rene,
Good to see some OZ input.

    Ok .. your jacket.
As a general rule, the exile Poles in all the arms of service tended to barter with other allied nations troops for finer weave / finer cut service dress and battledress jackets to be re-taylored for use as their own personal "walking out" attire.

From what I can see of your jacket, .. it has a finer grade of cloth than those issued as standard by the British.
However, the owner may have been RAAF as stated, and thus this was his standard issue jacket.

As for the insignia, ... I have to check up on the badges etc to see if I can make a positive comparison.

    Cheers For Posting !

Hi Rene, welcome to the forum!

I cannot help on the jacket. But it is just one of those items which screams "original". I love the wear and fading to it.

Polish Forces were renouned for their smart turnout.

    Cheers, Ade.

Going by the sewing of the insignia, the owner didn't need to be that sharp! this fella may have acquired this jacket from RAAF stores in GB. But I hope there is some info on any Polish units that served in the RAAF.
I did purchase this jacket from an old merchant mariner (deceased) some 10 years back.

    Regards

Hello! Thare are some things that this jacket don't look good. Not polish buttons, i not believe that polish airman don't have polish buttons! Every original polish RAF jacket i saw had buttons with eagle. Can you take better photos of poland's badges? The sew of poland's look new. I don't know anything about other tabs. Yes, it's true that polish forces retailored uniforms, but i had never seen RAF jacket with shoulder-straps.... There are so many but, but, but... in my opnion it's combined. Regards

The shoulder straps will be either custom made or taken from a greatcoat.

Lack of Polish buttons could simply be down to lack of availability. Most of those I have seen were made in Britian.

Can some educate me as to what the badge is worn on the cuff please?

    Cheers, Ade.

    Ade,
I think everything on the jacket is of Royal Australian Air Force background.
The arm badge looks closer to the Australian "Air Crew" badge or possibly Australian Fleet Air Arm. ?

We really need an RAAF Oz expert on this one !

Hi Rene, the date I can see here on the label appears to be 1946? Is there another date somewhere or are we mistaken on the date?

    Cheers, Ade.

It is 43 it's smudged a bit, I was waiting for someone to pick up on it as it does look like 46 but its not. Very difficult tag to photograph as it's creased. and no other dates on it
