    Hello,

I just want to tell you that I have put out a second edition of The Wrong Side Of The River., so far the only story about the Polish Engineer Company at Arnhem. Please correct me if there is another book.
You can see parts of the book on www.lulu.com and you can get the link on my website: www.stormboatkings.ca The first edition of 100 copies has been sold out for awhile and this edition has been totally reworked. Sorry, but it is only in English, as the only words in Polish I know are of food. Now, if someone wants to translate it for me, let me know. I wish that someone would!

    Cheers,

    John Sliz

Hi can anyone recommend some books relating to Polish medals both pre 1939and from 1939 to 48.
Im looking for general books as opposed to specialisms on one particular kind of medal such as Krogulec for example.

    Many thanks Rob

    Hi Robert,

The aren't too many out there. The Oberlietner reference is generally considered to be the most comprehensive general guide as it covers all of the major and some of the scarcer decorations. A brief general overview of each decoration is given.

The book is desperately in need of revision and updating - especially in the area of photographs and illustrations. Poorly hand drawn facsimiles and weak black and white photographs are woefully inadequate in meeting the requirments of not only collectors, but anyone with an interest in Polish decorations. A random sampling below. As you can see, just about useless.

    Regards,
    Tony

    Hello Marcin,

WOW! Very impressive collection of rare titles. Many thanks for sharing them with us.

Here are some from my collection that are quite precious to me, all signed by Polish generals. Three of them are first edition autobiographical books detailing the author's WW2 experiences. Kopanski's "Recollections 1939-1946" is a 2nd printing.

The other book is a rarely seen photo-exposition highlighting all aspects of the Polish Armed Forces as it existed in 1939 (Girs-Barcz, Warsaw 1939). This one was presented to Swiss Colonel Lederrey in 1941 signed by General Prugar-Ketling while interned in Switzerland during the war. The book is dedicated and also had a letter tucked into the pages.

    The dedication:

To Colonel Lederrey who so brilliantly personifies the military values of the Swiss army and who knows how to recognize the values of others - I present this small souvenir in recognition and friendship.

    B Prugar, gen.

    Switzerland 1940/41

    The letter:

    My dear Colonel , Huttwil 16. I. 41

Having found a book about the army and navy of the Polish war I am sending you some pictures.

They will show you the glory and grandeur of our army but at the same time you will also read that even before losing everything we did not lose heart or courage.

I hope that in a few years I will be in a position to show you, on the soil of our free Homeland, the new Polish army, even more powerful and stronger than the one I present to you now in this book representing the old army.

    B Prugar

    Hi Marcin,

Many thanks for the recommendation. I wasn't aware of the reissue. The fact it's comprehensive covering all decorations up to 1990 is nice. I'll definitely check it out.

    Cheers,
    Tony
