    Hi guys.
I want to discuss with you one qestion.

    Atlantic Star
    Aircrew europe Star

What do you think, is it a full list of service awards?
And what british awards for gallantry polish soldiers were awarded?
I know you have seen many polish awards groups and this qestions will be not difficult for you.
    Best regards, Alex.

    Hi Emerald,

Welcome to the forum, what you must not forget are the bars awarded, say for example a person was awarded the Atlantic Star they would be entitled if qualified to either the Air Crew Europe Bar or the France and Germany Bar but couldnot be awarded both.

With the Air Crew Europe Star, either the Atlantic or France and Germany Bar was awarded.

Africa Star those with the requisite qualifications could gain one of the following bars:- 8th Army, 1st Army, or North Africa 1942-43.

France and Germany Star, the only bar awarded with this star is "Atlantic"

1939-1945 War Medal when mentioned in despatches a Bronze Oak Leaf emblem is applied to the ribbon.

1939-1945 Star the only Bar awarded is "Battle of Britain".

With regards to the British Gallantry awards awarded to Polish Soldiers:

They were awarded the following Gallantry Awards:

Distinguished Service Order: 58 were awarded.

Distinguished Service Cross: 27 were awarded. (including Bars)

Distinguished Flying Cross: 177 were awarded. (including Bars)

    Military Cross: 84 were awarded.

The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (Military Division)

    G.B.E: 1 award.

    K.B.E. 1 award.

    C.B.E. 30 awards.

    O.B.E. 94 awards.

    M.B.E. 110 awards.

    B.E.M. 19 awards

    Distinguised Conduct Medal: 8

    Military Medal: 70

    Distinguished Service Medal: 27

    Air Force Cross: 18

    Air Force Medal: 6

    Distinguished Flying Medal: 66

    Conspicuous Gallantry Medal (Flying): 1

The Most Honourable Order of the Bath (Military Division)

    K.C.B. 4 awards

    C.B. 9 awards

I hope that the above information answers your questions.

    Best wishes

What great photos. I notice that some are wearing RAF wings, mostly on the left, one on the right and the rest no RAF wings at all. I assume above the ribbons over the left pocket was the norm but was there any specific regulation?

    All the best

    Hello James,

The qualification badges were worn high on the left breast near the lapel, under which a small chain was suspended by means of a hook and although the eagle itself seemed to be suspended by this chain. In reality it was fixed by means of a srew with nut at the back of the badge.

    Best wishes

Default a question concerning the Africa Star and 2nd Tank Corp.

Happy first day of spring to all. It is a bright sunny day in the Arctic. Earlier in this thread, the Africa Star was mentioned as an award available to Polish soldiers. I recall reading that the Africa Star was not available to 2nd Tank Corp. Is my memory correct?
    Thanks all!

    Hi Andrzej

I was actually referring to what look like RAF wings rather than the Polish Air Force qualification badge.

Jerzy Szymankiewicz D.F.C in the photo above is wearing what looks like RAF wings of his right pocket

    Thanks

    James
