Default I need help with my grandfather's documentation

    Hi Members,

I have been fortunate enough to inherit my grandfather's war documents. fortunately for me he was somewhat of a hoarder, so I have a bunch of award/medal certificates, not only for him, but for a presumably fallen comrade. I don't speak or write Polish at the wish of my grandparents so I'm trying to make sense of these using Google Translate.

The certificates I have are as follows:
odznaki pamiatkowej 2 korpusu Italia 1944, and 1946: 2 Corps commemorative badges No 28479, 3 march 1945, 6 Kompania Warsztatowa, No 002494 27/12/1946 Boleslaw Jankowski (grandpa) 6 Kompania Warsztatowa and No 012880 27/12/1946 Stanislaw Rotberg, 6 Kompania Warsztatowa
odznaki pamiatkowej 5 kresowej dywizji piecho: 5th Infantry Division commemorative badges No 22819 6 Kompanii Warsztatowej Boleslaw Jankowski and 5th Infantry Division commemorative badges No 22894 6 Kompanii Warsztatowej Stanislaw Rotberg

odznaki pamiatkowej 6 dywizji lwow: No 1866 and 11867 Boleslaw Jankowski 6 Kompania Warsztatowa
6 Kompanii warsztatowej 5 KDP: Certificate no 37 6 III 1946. On the back is card authorizing the carrying (of) British decorations.

There is also one in English listing him as L/Corporal of the 6th Polish Bde Workshop

I am thinking of trying to find any living relatives of Stanislaw Rotberg so I can return his documentation to his family. Can you shed any light on these documents?

    Regards, Vicki

Hello Vicki, and welcome to the forum.

Congratulations on inheriting your grandfather’s war documents. It appears as though you have identified them correctly.

I suspect that here you are referring to two separate award documents, one for the Monte Cassino Cross and the other for the 2nd Corps Commemorative badge.

In the event that you received only the documents, here are the badges / decoration that would have accompanied the documents – left to right:

Monte Cassino Cross ( krzyż pamiątkowy Monte Cassino).

2 Corps Commemorative badge (odznaka pamiątkowa 2 korpusu):

5th Kresowa Infantry Division badge (odznaka pamiątkowa 5 kresowej dywizji piechoty):

6th Lwow Infantry Division badge (odznaka pamiątkowa 6 dywizji Lwow)

Please let us know if you have any other specific questions relating to these items.

    Regards,
    Tony

    Welcome Anna,

Kosa is correct, we welcome all enthusiasts, Polish speaking or not. However, as a courtesy to non-Polish speaking members (this is after all an English language forum) I will ask bi-lingual members to chip in with brief translations. All replies to Polish-language questions should also contain an English translation. In this way we can all benefit from the input of new members.

Quick translation for Anna’s benefit (keep in mind that I was born and raised in Canada so please excuse the rudimentary vocabulary and any grammatical errors, and my keyboard doesn’t have the Polish jots and tittles )

    Witaj Anna,

W ten sposob mozemy korzystac z udzialem nowych czlonkow.

    Regards and thanks,

    Hello.
My dad survived the war. He fought in the Anders Army at Monte Cassino. I know that he was a private who served in the infantry. He was born in Lodz, Poland. He died in 1962.
I very much request your contact.
Unfortunately, I do not know English.
    Cheers, Anna Brynkiewicz

    Hello Vicki,

Would I be correct in thinking that your Grandfather was born in 1911, because I have found a Strzelec (Rifleman) Boleslaw Jankowski, Date of Birth: 1911, Army Service Number (also found on his ID Tags): 1911-107-III, serving with 6KWarszt (6th Workshop Company) awarded the Monte Cassino Cross Numbered: 28479.

With regards to his friend Stanislaw Rotberg he was also a Rifleman, Born in 1915, Army Service Number(also found on his ID Tags): 1915-132-III, he also served in the same unit and was awarded the Monte Cassino Cross Numbered: 28545.

I had a quick check of the list of Polish Soldiers Killed during the Campaign in Italy, with no luck at finding a listing for Stanislaw Rotberg.

I hope that the above information is of some use and help best wishes

    Hello Vicki,
mayby it's only coincident but my grandpa Stanisław Rotberg fought during the WW2 at Monte Casino. Photos that were attached below are very similar with the ones I have after my grandpa. You wrote that have some documents regardings and certificates. Is there any possibilyty to scan and send to me by email or other way? Its' hard to believe that after such long time I found somebody connected with history of my grandpa.
BTW Brynkiewicz is my aunt and second daughter of my grandfather.

Hi - I can scan those documents and post them here. My grandfather never liked to talk about the war so I don't know the circumstances behind why he had Stanislaw's documentation for those medals, but he looked after them until his death.

Kind regards, will post the scans when I can.
