    Hi Scout,

It is described in my book 'Polish Orders, Medals, Badges... 1705-1985' by Z. P. Wesolowski page 208 figure 719 as: Independent Carpathian Rifle Brigade. Unit formed in Syria in 1940 with personnel arriving from the Soviet Union. Silver crowned eagle with two bayonets and half moon units monogram in center and TOBRUK below the eagle's claws. 50mm X 47mm 800 silver and serial numbered on reverse.

Looks A-OK to me, with it's original spinner. Sorry, I don't have the award list either. Perhaps Andrzejku? . . .

    Hi Guys.
This badge was awarded to plutonowy podchorąży Jakub Świtalski, service number 5450. He served with the 1st Carpathian Infantry Battalion and was awarded the Polish Cross of Valour and the British Military Medal.

    Now thats interesting !!!!
    The British MM awarded.

That would make him very re-searchable.

He is listed as 1910/1 POR 1Bn KW 2
So 1st Battalion, and KW twice awarded !

    Hi Juno44,

Tom is correct that Plutowny pchr. was awarded the British Military Medal, from records held by the Sikorski Museum in London the award was approved in 1942, he was also awarded the KW whilst with the Brigade.

By 1944 and the Battle of Monte Cassino he was by that time a Podporucznik (2nd Lieutenant) in thew 1st Carpathian Rifle Battalion and was awarded the Monte Cassino Cross numbered: 1880.

By the end of the war he had been promoted again this time to Porucznik (Lieutenant), his Army number also found on his ID Tags was: 1910/1/III.

Just as a matter of interest there was also another J. Switalski, this one was Jan born 2 years after Jakub also a Porucznik with 5BSK he also won a British award, the Military Cross approved 1946.

I hope that the above information is of some help and use best wishes

    Andrzejku
