    Hello Lee and welcome. Your grandfather’s dog tags reveal the following:

    A.P = Armia Polska = Polish Army
    1914 = Year of birth
    317 = Registration Number
    III = Army Recruiting Command: APW (Polish Army in the East) / 2nd Corps (Italy)
    RZ KAT = Rzymski Katolik (Roman Catholic) - religious affiliation

    And the rest you already know:
    PLAT = surname
    BERNARD = Christian name

    The dog tag set should also contain one with this same information but green colour and an octagonal shape. Here’s my father’s:

    The following thread contains some avenues you could investigate. To obtain your grandfather’s service records from the Ministry of Defense there’s a fee (I believe now set at £30) and you’ll need to provide a copy of your grandfather’s death certificate.

    Researching a Polish Exile Combatant.

    Best wishes in your hunt.
