Hello George,
May I welcome you to the forum, both your Father and Grand Father where at Monte Cassino and awarded the Monte Cassino Cross, do you know the name of your Great Grandfather Piotr.
When awarded the Monte Cassino Cross their details were as follows:
Rank : Starszy Strzelec (Lance Corporal)
Surname : BIEDUL
Christian Name : Jerzy
Date of Birth : 1924
Army Number : (also found on His ID Tags) : 1924-28-III
Unit : 5th Carpathian Rifle Battalion, 2nd Carpathian Rifle Brigade, 3rd Carpathian Rifle Division.
Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 3065
Rank : Sierzant (Sergeant)
Surname : BIEDUL
Christian Name : FRANCISZEK
Date of Birth : 1899
Army Number : (also found on His ID Tags) : 1899-63-III
Unit : 22nd Transport Company
Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 43995
George would I also be correct in thinking that your Father's Christian Names where Jerzy Stanislaw?
They were deported from Poland more than likely January 1940 and arrived in Archangel on the 29th February 1940.
I hope that the above information is of some use and help to you George
Best wishes
Andrzej

Hello George,
If you would like to know what medals your Father and Grandfather would have been awarded the list is as follows:
Jerzy Biedul
Polish Awards :
1) Krzyz Walecznych 1939-1945 (Cross of Valour and Bar denoting 2nd award)
2) Medal Wojska (Army Medal)
3) Odznaka Pamiatkowa "Krzyz Pamiatkowy Monte Cassino" (Monte Cassino Cross)
British Awards :
1) 1939-1945 Star
2) Italy Star
3) Defence Medal
4) 1939-1945 War Medal (depending on the length of his service)
Your Grandfather Franciszek
Polish Awards:
1) Medal Wojska
2) Monte Cassino Cross
British Awards:
1) 1939-1945 Star
2) Italy Star
3) Defence Medal
4) 1939-1945 War Medal (again depending of the length of service)
George because of the age of your Grandfather he may have also served in the Wars of Independence between 1918-1921, it would therefore be advisable to contact the Polish Records Centre in Rembertow, to see if they can provide you with a copy of his service record.
Also you could apply to the British Ministry of Defence to obtain copies of all records they hold for both your Father and Grandfather, unfortunately they do charge for this service prices are shown on the M-o-D website.
I hope that the above is of some use and help to you
Best wishes
Andrzej
