    Hello Steve,

Congratulations on your acquisition, the group is correct although it would be nice to view the reverse side of everything.

The Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 25918 when awarded the recipient details were as follows:

    Rank : Sierzant

    Surname : SADKA

    Christian Name : Maksymilian

    Fathers Name : Szymon (Simon)

    Date of Birth : 1907

Army Number : (also found on His ID Tags) : 1907-116-III

Unit : P4Panc (4th Armoured Regiment, 2nd Armoured Brigade (later 2nd Armoured Division, 2nd Polish Corps)

During the September 1939 Campaign he was either a Reservist or full time soldier he was captured in Łuck, on the 18th September 1939 and was released after the germans attacked the ussr and joined the Ander's Army at Tockoje on the 2nd September 1941.

I have also looked through the Regimental History which was published in London in 1975, Maksymilian served in the 1 Szwadron (1st Szwadron) and by the end of the war was a Starszy Sierzant (Staff Sergeant). The Regimental History also confirms the awards of the KW KZ and Odznaka za Rany i Kontuzje (the Honour Badge for Wounded) with 1 star denoting 1 wound.

If you require further information on his award of the KW, you will beed to either visit the PISM in London or ask them to search through their records for which they charge £25.00p for upto 2 hours of research with no guarantee of finding anything.

Anyway I will leave it up to you to decide how to proceed with your research of Maksymilian Sadka's awards.

I hope that the above information is of some use and help to you Steve.

    Best wishes

    Andrzej
