Duncombe Park, Helmsley, Yorkshire was the Polish Resettlement Corps camp for the demobilised 2nd Warsaw Armoured Brigade arriving from Italy. Not sure if the "nissen" huts that made up the camp are still in evidence on the site?

Again, thank you for sharing such a wonderful collection ... of family mementos

    Hi Everyone,

If anyone has any information on any of the following then please you share it with me:

    > Monte Cassino No: 35845 - under the name of Private Sergiusz Draczuk (Any information? Or, if anyone comes across this Cross could you let me know asap).

I have a bio on the individual (who was my Grand-Farther) so if anyone has any extra information on any of the following then that would help :-)

"Before the outbreak of the Second World War lived at Biala, Bialowieza, Bielsk-Podlaski, Bialystok, Eastern Poland illegally seized and occupied by the Soviet Union in 1939. Deported by Russian Security Pilice (NKVD) to slave labour camp in USSR in 1940.

Released on Amnesty, joined the Polish Forces in USSR on 02.04.1942 (Rally station recruiting and Record Office No. 6). On crossing the Soviet - Iranian frontier together with his unit came under British command as above. Served in the Middle East (Iran, Iraq, Palestine, Egypt) 1942 - 1944, Italy 1944-1946 and the United Kingdom 1946-1949 until finally discharged.

Transferred to the 9 Company, 23 Infantry Battalion, 7 Infantry Division on 12.12.1942. Posted to the 2 Battery, 7 Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment on 08.05.1943. Took part with the 7 Light Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment and Workshop "A", 2nd Polish Corps HQ in the campaign in Italy from 03.02.1944 to 02.05.1945 (actions on the Rivers Sangro and Rapido, for Monte Cassino, The Gustav-Hitler Line, Adriatic Coast, Ancona, The Gothic Line, Northern Apennines, on the River Senio, for Bologna and the Plain of Lombardy).

Seconded to the Polish Military Hospital No.3 and attached to the Service Company on 09.11.1946. Completed a two year contract with Polish Resettlement Corps."

    Thanks for reading!

    Regards, Andy
