    Hello Stuart,

Many thanks for the update there were 32 Walczak's awarded the Monte Cassino Cross, narrowing it down to Wacław leaves only 2

    1) Kapral (Corporal) Wacław Walczak, Born in 1901, Army Number : 1901-40-III, Unit : 3 Karpacki Pulk Artylerii Przeciwpancernej (3rd Carpathian Anti Tank Artillery Regiment), Awarded the Monte Cassino Cross Numbered 13565.

He ended the war as a Plutowny (Lance Sergeant).

    2) Starszy Ulan (Lance Corporal/Cavalry), Wacław Walczak, Born in 1903, Army Number : 1903-22-III, Unit : Pulk Ulanow Karpackich (Carpathian Lancers Regiment), Awarded the Monte Cassino Cross Numbered 38698.

He ended the war as a Kapral (Corporal).

The only other information that I was able to glean was the following :

Waclaw Walczak married Frances Christie in Salford in 1949 (3rd Quarter, Volume 10F, Page 1413), Wacław Walczak Born 1903 died in Paddington, London in the 1st Quarter of 1965 aged 62 (Volume 5D, Page 249).

That is all that I could find for you at the moment.

    Hello Stuart,

Many thanks for your reply and clarification, a nice surprise for your wife now the Name of her Great Grandfather : Andrzej

I have now been able to check the index of victims of soviet repression for you and have the following information.

Wacław Walczak was a soldier or reservist pre September 1939, he was captured by the Russians on the 19th September 1939 at Wlodzimierz, he arrived at his camp at Dniepropietrowska on the 3rd June 1940 and joined the Anders Army at Tatiszczewo on the 3rd September 1941.

Stuart it would also be worth while writing to the Polish Army Records Centre at Rembertow near Warsaw to see what records they have and what they can copy and send to you.

    The Address is as follows:

Central Military Archives, ul. Czerwonych Beretów 124, 00-910 Warsaw-Rembertów, Poland-Polska

    Default Pilipczuk Leon

    Hi Tessa,

Thanks to you and Andrzej, Your grandfather Leon Pilipczuk now appears on the Kresy-Siberia Virtul Museum's Wall of Tribute » Search results with 3 other Pilipczuks (Cyryl, Kazimierz and Mikołaj). Please add any information you have to Leon's profile.

Note that Kazimierz Pilipczuk was not at Monte Cassino, but a private in the Kosciuszko Division ("Gen. Berling's Army"), the Polish forces (also mostly deportees to Siberia) fighting the Germans under Soviet command. He was son of Piotr, born on 1917-06-22 in Przemyślany, Poland and died on 1943-10-12 at the disasterous Battle of Lenino. Could he have been a member of your family, given that the surname is not common?
