    Hello Gary,

Many thanks for your post and yes you are correct in thinking that the Badge is the Beret Badge of the 9th Supply Company, 2nd Armoured Division.

I hope you do not mind me naming the Badges on the attached photograph of ypurs

    Hello Gary,

Further to your post asking if he would have been awarded the Africa Star, he was at that time in Siberia in a Slave labour camp, Bolesław Krawczyk would have received the following British Stars and Medal.

    1) 1939-1945 Star

    2) Italy Star

    3) Defence Medal 1939-1945

    Polish Awards

    1) Army Medal

    2) Monte Cassino Cross Numbered 31594.

Regarding obtaining His Service Record, the 2nd Corps was under the Command of the British 8th Army during the campaign in Italy 1943-1945, the Ministry of Defence hold his Service Record.

So unless you can ask a Family Member to provide the information that the M-o-D ask for as well as paying them £30.00p, I am afraid that it will have to remain a mystery.

    Apologies for that

    Andrzej

Once again many thanks Andrzej ... I will endeavour to find out if his surviving family are in the Notts area and of course pay my respects at the cemetery where he lies.

One query though ... in the list of medals would he have also been entitled to the British War Medal 1939-45 as I was under the impression that the award criteria was 28 days service ?

And thank you for annotating the badges in the photograph :0)

    Kind Regards

    Gary

    Hello Gary,

Many thanks for your post the attached photo will explain everything

    Monte Cassino cross

1948 the British Authorities decided in their wisdom that Polish Military Personnel awarded the Army Medal, Navy Medal, Air Force Medal or the Merchant Marine Medal would not be entitled to the British War Medal.

The only way of finding out would be to obtain His service record.

    Best wishes

    Andrzej
