    Hi Andrzej,

I looked through the list of the 2nd Corps units awarded the Cross but could not find the 460 Military Police (Provost) Squadron (that included the Investigation Platoon). Is there anyone, anywhere who could possibly shed some light on WHY members of the unit were not awarded the Cross of Monte Cassino? Thank you! Michał

    Hello Michał,

Many thanks for your post at the time of Monte Cassino, the 2nd Corps Numbered approximately 48,830 personnel, by the end of the war the 2nd Corps had grown to over 110,000 personnel.

The 460th Military Police Squadron is listed in the organization of the 2nd Corps in 1947.

It might be that certain members of the Squadron might have been awarded the Monte Cassino Cross whilst serving in another unit, I am looking for a book I have on the Military Police during WW2. But I have not been able to find it when I do I will see if it mentions your Great Grandfather.

    Best wishes

    Andrzej

    Hi Andrzej,

My grandfather, Józef Nuckowski, DOB March 29, 1892, was working for the police station in Rzęsna Polska, near Lwów, (sprawa Gorgonowej) before the war. Army number, 16/N/1892/III, WO 2nd Class after war with 460 MP (Provost) Squadron. I am checking with the BMoD the details but it will be a while... I wonder if you might have ANY details from the days before 460 MP Squadron?

    Thank you,
    Michal

    Hello Andrzej,

Thank you again for your kind reply and your help. I have finally received a copy of my grandfather's (Józef Nuckowski, DOB March 29, 1892, 16/N/1892/III) Polish military ID. Indeed, he was with the 2nd Military Police Provost / Squadron in the rank of Warrant Officer 1st Class since October 23, 1943. As you correctly remarked, he was moved to the 460 MP Provost / Squadron only after the war. What would be the most obvious reasons for not awarding the MCC to a soldier of the 2nd Polish Corps active at the time of the battle?

    Thank you again!
    Michal

    Hello Michal,

Many thanks for your post with regards to Chor. Józef Nuckowski, I have looked through the Register of Recipients for again with no joy, it might be that Józef was stationed else where either in Italy or Palestine or even in Hospital.

I am afraid that I can not answer that question for you Michal.

    Best wishes

    Andrzej

    Hi Andrzej,

Big thanks! Just a couple more questions please. Would you know if the 2nd Military Police (Provost coy.) Squadron is the same as the 2nd Armour Division Military Police unit? Is there any book or publication on 2nd Corps Military Police you might recommend?

    Best regards,
    Michal
