    Hello Everyone
    Once again about st.pancerny HAJNA:
He was born on November 22, 1917 in the village of Wilchwy (now a district of Wodzisław Śląski) in the family of Wincenty and Joanna Hejn. From an early age he was active in the scout team from Wilchwy.

On September 1, 1939, he appeared in the barracks of the 5th Panzer Battalion in Krakow. In September 1939 he participated in battles with the Germans, and then with the Red Army. On September 19, he was captured by the Soviets. In the years 1939-1941 he was in captivity, among others in Starobelsk and Siberia.

In 1941 he joined the Polish Army in the USSR. As a soldier of the 2nd Polish Corps, he underwent a combat trail from Iraq through Africa to Italy. He served in the 4th Armored Regiment "Skorpion" and fought with him at Monte Cassino.

For special merits in the battle of Monte Cassino he was awarded the Virtuti Militari order. He participated in the entire Italian campaign, including in the battles of Ancona and Bologna. He was awarded, among others Cross of Valor, Cross for the September Campaign, Stars of Africa and Italy.

After the end of World War II, he participated in the Italian occupation. In 1947 he settled in Canada. He was a member of the Polish Army Veterans Association (circles in Toronto and Oshawa). He died on March 3, 2009 in Oshawa and was buried at the Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Whitby.
