Images I believe of my uncle Władysław Sawicki born in 1921, Kanonier, 7 Pulk Artylerii PrzeciwLotniczy Lekkiej (7th Light Anti Aircraft Artillery Regiment) 2nd Group Artillery, 2nd Polish Corps. He was awarded the Monte Cassino Cross(36332) and the two other medals shown in the image. I was wondering if anyone knows the name of the two other medals and what they were given for.

    thank you

    Hello Chris,

many thanks for your post the 2 Items are as follows:

    1) British Africa Star with Bar

    2) British 1939-1945 War Medal

    1) The Africa Star symbolises events in British military history, the qualifying period was from 10th June 1940 to 12th May 1943 and service of one day or more in an operational area gained entitlement. Those with the requisite qualifications could gain one of the following bars :- 8th Army, 1st Army, North Africa 1942-43. The star is unnamed.

    2) War Medal 1939-1945, the qualifying period for this medal was 3 years service in the United Kingdom or 6 months overseas in territories subjected to or threatened by enemy attack. But it was only necessary to serve for 28 days to gain entitlement . The medal is unnamed.

The above information Chris was taken from British Orders, Decorations and Medals by Donald Hall

Chris the War Medal should have the Profile of King George VI obverse (Front), like the one attached below:
