    Monte Cassino Cross Nr : 42628 was awarded to Och. Maria Hardej, Born in 1904, Army Number : (also found on Her ID Tags) : 1904-8-III, Unit : 1st Military Hospital.

    Her Fathers Name was Józef, she was deported from Białostocka in 1940, after the end of the war she came to the UK and in 1955 was granted British Citizenship when living in Cippenham, Buckinghamshire, she died in 1981.

    Many thanks for your post and in answer to your 5 Questions :

    1) Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 42994 was awarded to Siostra sal. Stanisława Kolankowska, Born in 1903, Army Nr : 1903-147-III, Unit : 3SW (3rd Military Hospital). After the end of the war she came to the UK where she died in Bradford in 1965.

    2) Saper (Engineer) Józef Cyrański, Born in 1902, Army Nr : 1902-77-III, Unit : 3KBSap (3rd Carpathian Engineers Battalion), awarded the Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 3385.

    3) Saper (Engineer) Józef Gajewski, Born in 1913, Army Nr : 1913-117-III, Unit DS5KDP (5th Kresowa Infantry Division Engineers), awarded Monte Cassino Cross Nr : 25356. I found one Józef Gajewski who was born in 1913 died in 1982 in Fulham, London.

    4) Sierzant (Sergeant) Stanisław Kowalski, Born in 1913, Army Nr : 1913-117-III, Unit : P4Panc (4th Armoured Regiment), awarded the Monte Cassino Cross Nr : 29224, he was also awarded the KW (Cross of Valour) and served in the 3rd Squadron. I found one Stanisław Kowalski born in 1913 died in Birmingham in 1978.

    5) Pancerny Aleksander Kuczewski, Born 8th May 1913, Army Nr : 1913-304-III, Unit : P4Panc, awarded the Monte Cassino Cross Nr : 29308, also awarded the KW, he served in the Headquarters Squadron. After the end of the war he came to the UK where in 1954 he married Sylvia Hammerdon in Whitby, Yorkshire. Aleksander Kuczewski died on the 24th June 1990 and was buried on the 28th June 1990 in Cleveland.

    On April 13, 2018, I paid PLN 562 for extending the validity period to June 24, 2026. The grave survived, and in my pocket barrack: £ 117 = $ 167...hehehehehhe

    I found the following whilst surfing the net today :

    Monte Cassino cross


    St. Strz.pchr. (Lance Corporal/Officer Cadet), Marian Talaga, Born in 1914, Army Number : 1914-28-III, Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 13247, Unit : 5BSK.


    By the end of the war he had been promoted to Podporucznik (2nd Lieutenant) with the KW and serving with 9BSK.
