. . . I'm sure you are right about the photo of the trumpet playing soldier . . . but I would have expected to see the lion badge on his beret...
Hi Mark, this is most likely because at the time this photo was taken the beret insignia had not yet been formally accepted. With the 4th “Scorpion” Armoured Regiment the beret scorpion insignia was authourized for wear on April 2, 1945. This was the first insignia bearing the scorpion authorized for display on the uniform. The badge and collar pennons followed a year later. I am away from my reference sources at the moment so cannot verify the dates, but it’s a good bet that the other armoured regiments had their beret insignia introduced around this time.

    Cheers,
    Tony

    Hi Tony,

The commemorative badge of the 6th Armoured Regiment "Dzieci Lwowskich" was aproved as late as on 27 September 1948. As far as I am aware beret badges appeared after the war around 1945/46.

Thanks Kosa. When back at home I'll check for the date the beret badge was authorized, but you are very likely correct that some time 1945/46.

    Cheers,
    Tony

Another face and a personal contribution.
My grandfather’s first CO at 5 (Polish) Casualty Clearing Station, Lt. Col. Stanislaw Sikora MCC 41627 already has his picture of Page 16. His signature is on granddad’s MCC certificate.

    Monte Cassino cross

After Sikora was promoted, the CCS became an Evacuation Field Hospital and the new CO was Captain Dr. Wlodzimier Felicki 1891/7/III MCC 41617 (awarded while a Lt.)

The Photo was taken in 1946. He is standing on the rooftop sun terrace of the building in Loreto which the army requisitioned for the hospital. The second photo is my granddad (third from the left) and others outside the same building.

Seeing the many wonderful photos being posted prompts me to ask if there’s a possibility that anyone has a photo of one or more of these individuals to add to the groupings in my collection. I realize that it’s like finding a needle in a haystack, but I’m hoping that lightning may strike:

Hi Tony, I can't help but hopefully Andrzejku will.

Let me add a bit more information to post #183 where Andrzejku presents Carpathian Lancer kapral Piotr Lipnicki MCC#38451
Piotr returned to Poland after the war. He died in Cychry village, Dębno county, Poland in 1988.

Tony, I can see corrosion develops on the right arm of your MCC. The green residue is not patina/verdigris. If you don’t remove it pits will gradually get deeper and larger. Coin safe chemicals help remove it.
