Hello Andrzej! I have been watching You help many people find the necessary information for a long time and decided to ask for Your help. I know that my grandfather Malofiej Stefan served in the second Polish corps and had the cross of Monte Cassino No. 17319. After the war, he lived in England and died in 1981. Maybe you can get more information and find a photo. Thank you .

    Hello ALIKS,

Many thanks for your post and comments and may I welcome you to the Forum, I have searched the London Gazette, Kresy-Siberia, Index of victims of soviet repression all without finding anything listed for your Grandfather.

I can only add the following information from when your Grandfather was awarded the Monte Cassino Cross, at the time of the award his details were as follows:

    Rank : Strzelców (Rifleman)

    Surname : Malofiej

    Christian Name : Stefan

    Date of Birth : 16th October 1908

Army Number : (also found on His ID Tags) : 1908-59-III

Unit : 15 Wileński Batalion Strzelców „Wilków”, 5KDP, (15th Wilno Rifle Battalion "Wolf", 5th Kresowa Infantry Division.

Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 17319

After the end of the war in Europe your Grandfather came to the UK with his Battalion and settled down, Stefan died on the 7th November 1981, his death was listed in Chiltern & Beaconsfield District, Buckinghamshire.

I have also looked through the PISM.co.uk online documents, but at this moment they have nothing listed for the 15BS.

Sorry that I can not help you further in your search, I am now house bound and have lost my sight in my right eye, so if there are any typo's I apologise.

I could not find any photographs of your grandfather, but I did find one taken on the 7th May 1944 with General Anders attending a Field Service for the 15BS. Photograph below.
