    Dear Andrzejku,

Just going back to my primary focus of things medical. I wonder if you could find the MCC numbers of the following doctors.

    płk. dr Oktawiec
    por. lek. Adam Majewski
    por. Lek. Donat Massalski
    płk lek. Tadeusza Sokołowskiego
    ppłk. Dr Kazimierz Barucki

I am trying to assertain the locations of the various hospitals at the time of the battle fo Monte Cassino and the numbers on the list are at odds with the common historiography of the events. The two Casualty Clearing Stations are fairly clear – 3 was at Venafro and 5 was at Pozzilli next door, but the Hospitals 161 and 162 are confusing. I have a hunch the former was actually Military Hospital 2 at Campobasso and the later was Field Hospital 6 also at Venafro. Military Hospital 1 (I think) was later renumbered as 5 and was at Cassamasima. Military Hospital 3 was at Palagiano... probably.

It is all very confusing. I hope you can help.

    Best regards, Mark Ostrowski

    Dear Andrzej,

Indeed it is very helpful. I can now confidently confirm that:

Military Hospital 162 (also known as Field Hospital 6) was at Venafro.
Military Hospital 1 (later known as Military Hospital 5) and was at Casamassima.
Military Hospital 161 (later known as Military Hospital 2) was at Campobasso.
Military Hospital 3 was at Palagiano.

    And…

    Just one picture to add:
Pulkownik lek.Dr. Tadeusz Sokolowski 1887-200-III awarded MCC Nr:42356

    Monte Cassino cross

Colonnello Tadeusz Sokolowski – Cittadino onorario di Casamassima

    Colonnello Tadeusz Sokolowski

    Best regards, Mark

PS, That Podporucznik Adam Majewski who served with 3BSK awarded MCC Nr: 1611 was the right one. He was the battalion doctor who worked in the Regimental Aid Post [BPO in Polish] at the famous “Domek Doktora”

Dear Andrzej, By the way, if I could trouble you for another one…

Major (mjr lek. med.) Henryk Mazanek, [Y.O.B. 1899 ?] CO of a Military Hospital in Krakow up to 1939.
    5 Wojskowy Szpital
Did he actually end up in Military Hospital 1 (No.5) at Casamassima or Number 3 at Palagiano? His MCC will tell us.
I knew this list would be useful for something!!! As ever, your help would be much appreciated.

    Best regards, Mark
