    Dear all,

May be anybody has MCC #29561 in his private collection? It was my grandfather's cross but after his death my relatives lost it. I'm looking for it and ready to discuss the price.

    Br,
    Artem

    Hello Chris,

Many thanks for your post re the recipient of the MCC Numbered 40857, when awarded the cross the recipients details were as follows:

    Rank: Kapral (Corporal)

    Surname: Ptasznik

    Christian Name: Wladyslaw

    Date of Birth: 1910

    Fathers Name: Piotr

Army Number : (also found on His ID Tags) : 1910-106-III

Unit: 11Baon Lacznosci (11th Signals Battalion)

    MCC: 40857

Chris, I was able to glean the following information Pre September 1939 either serving in the Army or a Reservist, he fought in the September Campaign but with the russian forces closing in he crossed the border into Lithuania were he was arrested on the 19th September 1939 from there the next place I found him was in Kozielsk Camp on the 15th July 1940 and then sent onto Murmansk in Siberia. With the treaty signed between Poland and russia in 1941 Polish troops were released and Wladyslaw made his way to join the Anders Army at Tatiszczewo were he arrived on the 4th September 1941.

From the end of the war I could not find anything it seemed that he had vanished off the face of the planet, I looked through Ancestry and could find nothing until I came across this photograph of Wladyslaw and his wife Stefania's grave.

    Monte Cassino cross

They are buried in the Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main Street, West St.Paul, Manitoba

Stefania died in 1982 and Wladyslaw five years later in 1987.

The only other piece of information that I could glean fron the internet was a small photograph of Wladyslaw Ptasznik

    Monte Cassino cross

I sincerely hope that the above information is of some use and help to you Chris, apologies for not being able to find any further information on them for you.

    Best wishes

    Andrzej

    Hello Chris,

Many thanks for your post, with regards to the Recipient of the Monte Cassino Cross Numbered 40654 at the time of award His details were as follow:

    Rank : Kapral (Corporal)

    Surname: Józefowicz

    Christian Name: LUCJAN

    Date of Birth : 1916

Army Number : (also found on His ID Tags) : 1916-102-III

    Unit : 11th Signals Battalion.

Also on the Recipients List awarded MCC 40655 was another Józefowicz Marian St.Szer. Born in 1923, Army Number: 1923-44-III, this might have been his brother or not, but unusual all the same.

The only other piece of information that I was able to glean from ancestry was the death in Birmingham, Warwickshire in June 1966 was the death of a Lucjan Józefowicz apart from that I was not able to find anything else apart from the index of victims of soviet repression which lists His arrest on the 12th February 1940, Fathers Name also Lucjan.

Apologies for not being able to provide you with anymore concrete proof.

    Best wishes

    Andrzej

Andrzej could you send me a link to this ancestry post and/or a screen shot? I would like to forward it to a family that is trying to trace Lucjan's family.
    Chris.....
